Behind Every Face, There’s Another Discovery.
Elouise Flannery
If you could have lunch with one person alive or dead, who would it be?
Andy Warhol! I’d say he would have some mad stories to tell!
What do you usually follow when making decisions, your head or your heart?
I always follow my gut. If I have a big decision to make sometimes, I’ll toss a coin, whatever way it lands will usually tell me very clearly how my gut feels and I’ll go with that, it’s never led me astray.
What is the best to start the day?
Being grateful for a fresh new day and having a cup of tae
What are most people surprised to learn about you?
That I love to cook and learn new recipes, I like to see it as another form of art making.
What makes you laugh no matter what?
Spending time with my friends, I’m always guaranteed to have those big beautiful belly laughs!
What fact amazes you every time you think of it?
A bee produces a teaspoon of honey (about 5 grams) in her lifetime. Just before I put that teaspoon of honey into my tea, I ponder for a moment about that lovely bee.
What skill or craft would you like to master?
The Art of Meditation
Who are your biggest influencers?
I have a lot, to name a few… Ursula Flannery, Henri Matisse, Frida Kahlo, David Hockney, Lee Krasner, Heather Day, Carol Cronin and Maria Simonds Gooding
What role does the artist have in today’s society?
Artist’s have the wonderful ability to change the way you look at things, to provoke thoughts, to create connection with place and memory and to uplift. Overall artists can bring more beauty to the world.
What’s your favourite art work?
Claude Monet’s Large Water Lillies. The brushstrokes and colours are incredible, and the sheer scale is exciting – you become encapsulated in this beautiful world. The first time I saw them, I was just completely in awe. I'll never forget it.
What’s the favourite part of your job?
When someone connects with my art and it makes them feel uplifted, happy or reminds them of wonderful memories. There is no greater feeling than when someone decides they want to purchase and live with your painting forever – it’s a wonderful gift.
Do you listen to music while you work?
Yes, I like to listen to all sorts of music, my favourites would definitely be Ella Fitzgerald or Florence Welsh. I also love to listen to podcasts while I paint and listen to other artists talk about their work.
How long have you been painting and how long did it take you to develop your style?
I graduated from Crawford College of Art in 2014 and I’ve been painting professionally since then. Over the last few years, I’ve developed my studio practice, refining my style and continuing to push my learning and expertise. I’m constantly evolving, exploring and building a personal creative voice. Painting is a lifetime’s work. Everyday I learn something new – that’s the magic about it!
